Talk with Tonia is a faith-informed conversation brand for subjects people often experience privately but rarely discuss openly.
For its conversation on nightmares, fear at night, and the unease of darkness, the brief was to create recognition before explanation. Adults may outgrow the language of being scared of the dark, but not always the feeling: familiar rooms shift, silence gets louder, shadows change, and nightmares can feel entirely real.
The creative idea
The film opens in an ordinary bedroom. A woman sleeps. Something shifts, and the familiar starts to feel unsafe.
Rather than leading with “today we’re talking about nightmares,” the sequence lets the audience feel the vulnerability, terror, and helplessness of a frightening night first. The aim was recognition, not horror for spectacle.

Strategy
The work was built around 3 principles:
Recognition before explanation: create an emotional experience before an intellectual conversation.
Disrupt an assumption: challenge the idea that fear of darkness belongs only to childhood.
Use curiosity to earn attention: hold an unresolved emotional moment long enough to stop the scroll and invite viewers into the full conversation.
From cinema to conversation
The AI-generated sequence was the doorway, not the whole story. Its cinematic tension gives way to a human Talk with Tonia conversation exploring fear at night, nightmares, what we allow into our minds, practical responses, and faith.
That shift was essential. Emotion earned attention, then made room for a meaningful conversation.

Execution
AI filmmaking made it possible to visualise an experience that would have been difficult to produce practically. The creative began with a human tension, then built a visual world around it: a recognisable bedroom, vulnerability, restrained movement, believable expressions, and a gradual slide from normality into something unsettling.
The technology served the idea. The result was a cinematic, social-first opening designed to make viewers pause, feel, and continue into the conversation.
Audience discovery
The creative reached well beyond the existing audience.

Why it matters
The strongest signal was discovery. The work reached thousands of people with no existing relationship to the account, across 2 platforms.
This is the Behind the Rope approach to AI filmmaking: start with human truth, find the emotional tension, shape a visual experience around it, then use technology to bring it to life.
