For this project, I chose a couple of fonts that I wanted to write about and create a bit of an homage to. The Helvetica font made out of Helvetica letters above was a class favorite.
This was 2/3 of the segments of my font homage posters. My inspiration for this was the font of course, but even more so, the performance art that also occurred within the Bauhaus institution. One of my favorite aspects of performance art was ballet, so I took the figure of a Bauhaus ballet dancer. I shaped it to her beautiful movements with pure edited Bauhaus font letters. I shaped the letters to look like bone, representing the structure or literal backbone of Bauhaus to graphic design teachings in almost every modern-day designer's history books.
Above is the final poster for this typography homage. The inspiration was the movie American Psycho and it's movie posters. I used the font within the movie on the business card of Christian Bale's character Patrick Bateman. When he spoke of his business card being in the font Silian Rail in the color "bone", I knew it would be the perfect horror-themed poster. I used Silian Rail and manipulated it to look like Bateman's necktie and collar, while simultaneously creating a blood-stained chainsaw. This was a visually layered image that many in the class enjoyed.
