Short Description
A short-form animated comic that transforms a simple illustrated story into an engaging vertical video through motion, pacing, visual timing, sound, and comedic storytelling.
Project Overview
This project explores how a static comic-style concept can be transformed into a short, engaging video experience.
The story follows a character working with a dangerous formula when an unexpected explosion gives him extraordinary strength—or at least the strength to impress everyone by carrying six folding chairs at once.
The goal was to preserve the simplicity and humor of the original comic format while adding enough movement, pacing, and audiovisual energy to make it feel native to short-form video.
Rather than treating each illustration as a static slide, I structured the video as a continuous visual story where every scene reveals the next part of the joke.
The Challenge
The main challenge was maintaining the readability of a comic while also keeping the video moving.
Comic storytelling depends heavily on the viewer having enough time to understand the illustration and read the dialogue. Short-form video, however, needs fast pacing to maintain attention.
The edit therefore needed to balance:
Clear visual storytelling
Readable Spanish dialogue and captions
Fast short-form pacing
Character-focused composition
Smooth progression between scenes
Comedic timing
Sound and visual impact
A clear setup → transformation → punchline structure
Creative Approach
I treated the video as a miniature animated story rather than a slideshow of comic panels.
The opening quickly establishes the character and the dangerous experiment.
The explosion then becomes the main transition point, changing both the energy and direction of the story.
From there, the character's transformation is revealed before the final scene delivers the joke.
The sequence was structured around three simple storytelling beats:
Setup → Transformation → Punchline
This keeps the narrative understandable even within a very short runtime.
Editing & Storytelling
Scene Progression
Each scene was arranged so that new information is revealed naturally instead of showing the entire story immediately.
This encourages the viewer to continue watching to understand what happens next.
Comedic Timing
The timing between the laboratory experiment, explosion, transformation, and final chair-carrying scene was designed to make the punchline land effectively.
Motion
Subtle movement helps bring the illustrated characters and environments to life while maintaining the recognizable comic aesthetic.
Typography & Dialogue
The Spanish text remains a major part of the visual composition, so readability was prioritized throughout the sequence.
Pacing
Because the finished video is only around 13 seconds, every scene needed to communicate its purpose almost immediately.
The edit moves quickly without making the story difficult to follow.
Sound Design
Audio supports the visual action and helps emphasize important story moments, especially the explosion and transitions between scenes.

Storytelling Structure
The video follows a compact narrative arc.
1. Setup
A character is working on a dangerous formula.
2. Incident
An unexpected explosion occurs.
3. Transformation
The accident gives the character unusual strength.
4. Payoff
His incredible new ability is humorously demonstrated by carrying six folding chairs.
Using this simple structure allowed the complete joke to be communicated within only a few seconds.
Outcome
The final result is a compact animated comic that combines illustration, motion, text, sound, and timing into an easy-to-follow short-form story.
Instead of relying on complex effects, the video focuses on story progression and comedic timing.
The project demonstrates my ability to take illustrated or comic-style material and adapt it into engaging video content suitable for social platforms, entertainment content, branded storytelling, or short-form series.
