Client: Confidential Charity Organization Type: Commissioned Project Role: Art Director & Visual Designer
During the month of Ramadan, a charitable organization approached me to develop a visual campaign aimed at increasing awareness and encouraging donations across social media platforms. The campaign needed to capture the spiritual essence of Ramadan—centered around generosity, empathy, and community—while remaining accessible and engaging to a modern audience.
Challenge: To create a culturally resonant visual identity that stood out on digital platforms, encouraged engagement, and aligned with the charity's values and mission.

Research & Inspiration

To ground the campaign in authenticity and relevance, I began with cultural and visual research into Ramadan traditions and visual aesthetics. This involved:
Moodboards highlighting Islamic geometric patterns, calligraphy, traditional lanterns (fanous), and crescent moon motifs.
Color studies referencing warm, rich tones like gold, deep blue, and soft beige—symbolic of spirituality and warmth.
Social media analysis to determine content formats and engagement strategies used successfully in similar campaigns.
Creative Direction: A balance of traditional and modern design—clean, elegant visuals inspired by Islamic art, paired with contemporary layouts optimized for Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter.

Process & Development

Throughout the process, I focused on developing a visual system that could adapt across platforms and content types while maintaining brand coherence.

Key Elements:

Typography: A blend of modern sans-serif fonts with Arabic calligraphy accents to honor cultural roots while ensuring legibility in digital formats.
Color Palette: Gold, midnight blue, and ivory—chosen to evoke elegance, trust, and spiritual depth.
Graphic Elements: Crescent moons, hanging lanterns, and soft ornamental textures to add depth and cultural relevance.

Design Iterations Included:

Wireframes and content layout plans for social posts and stories
Iconography and pattern development
A/B tests with different call-to-action styles
Refinement based on engagement metrics and internal client feedback

Final Designs / Deliverables

Deliverables included a full set of assets tailored for social platforms:
Static and animated social media posts (Instagram, Facebook, Twitter)
Instagram stories with swipe-up donation links
Custom Ramadan-themed icon set
Branded highlight covers and post templates
Campaign guidelines for internal teams
All visuals were optimized for mobile viewing and designed with accessibility in mind (contrast, type size, and clarity).

Reflection

This project was both creatively fulfilling and personally meaningful. Designing for a cause during a season rooted in empathy made the work feel more impactful.
