Splice — First Look: Alissia Tries Studio One Pro 7 Post-Production Editorial & Creative Direction
There's something genuinely watchable about a great producer sitting down with an unfamiliar tool. No safety net, no prepared answers. Just instincts.
Splice brought me back to edit this one, following Alissia as she opened Studio One Pro 7 for the first time and built a track from scratch live on camera. She's a Logic Pro user, so the curiosity was real, and that came through in the footage.
The real work in the edit was making it feel like you never left the room. In reality I was cutting between dozens of takes, stitching together the best moments from a full session into something that played like one continuous flow. Every cut had to be invisible. The transitions, the breathing room between ideas, the way one moment leads into the next — all of it was engineered to feel like it just happened naturally. If the edit calls attention to itself, the illusion breaks and the viewer is watching a highlight reel instead of a session. Getting that right meant staying locked into Alissia's energy as the throughline. When she found her groove with the software, you felt it. When she tested the new Search With Sound feature with her electric basslines, it landed as a genuine discovery rather than a feature callout. Splice's integration in the browser gave her a natural on-ramp, and those moments where the software clicked for her were the anchors I built the pacing around. That's the story worth telling — not that Studio One has new features, but that a GRAMMY-nominated producer picked it up and ran with it. My job was to make sure it felt that way from start to finish.
