When you first enter the world of Hogwarts Legacy, one of the first and most exciting parts of the game is choosing which house you want to belong to.
Whether you're a brave Gryffindor, cunning Slytherin, wise Ravenclaw, or loyal Hufflepuff, each house has its own unique common room and side quests.
So how do you know which house is right for you?
In this guide, we'll explore the different houses in Hogwarts Legacy and help you determine which one is the best fit for you based on your personality and playstyle.

Differences Between Hogwarts Legacy Houses

There are four houses you can join in Hogwarts, and while each house has its own unique common room and side quests, it's important to look at how each house will impact your gameplay experience.
The most important differences you encounter involve:
The House Colours incorporated into some of your gear will reflect your chosen house
Exclusive access to your Common Room location (and a Floo Flame fast travel point not accessible to other houses)
Extra socializing and introductions with other 5th-year students in your house
Certain extra dialogue that may reference your house
Another important difference is the unique sidequest each house has.

Gryffindor

Gryffindor students are renowned for their fearlessness and unwavering bravery in the face of danger.
They are known to be the ultimate heroes, never shirking from their duties and always ready to do what is right, no matter the cost.
Founded by the legendary Godric Gryffindor, the house is represented by a bold and noble lion, with colors of red and gold that are emblazoned on the garments of its students.
Gryffindor students enjoy exclusive access to their cozy and inviting common room, located in the South Wing's Gryffindor Tower, and guarded by the ever-watchful portrait of a jovial and rotund lady.
Whether you're seeking adventure or looking to do the right thing, Gryffindor is the perfect house for you!

Gryffindor Side Quest:

As a Gryffindor student in Hogwarts Legacy, you will have the privilege of embarking on an exclusive side quest that pays homage to one of Harry Potter's own adventures.
"The Hunt for the Missing Pages" quest will take you on a thrilling journey through Hogwarts castle as you attempt to retrieve the missing pages of Sir Nicholas de Mimsy-Porpington's "Guide to the Headless Hunt."
This quest is a nod to the classic Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, where Harry himself helps Nearly Headless Nick on his journey to becoming a member of the Headless Hunt.
To start this quest, you will need to meet with Nearly Headless Nick himself, the Gryffindor house ghost. He will present you with his pitch to join the Headless Hunt and ask for your help in obtaining the missing pages. With each page, you will delve deeper into the rich history of the Headless Hunt and uncover hidden secrets within the walls of Hogwarts.
This quest is not to be missed by any true Harry Potter fan and will provide an extra layer of immersion and excitement to your Hogwarts Legacy experience.

Slytherin

Watch on YouTube
Slytherin is a house known for its cunning and ambition. Its students are often depicted as being more cunning and calculating, with a strong focus on success at any cost, regardless of the impact on others.
Founded by the infamous Salazar Slytherin, the house is represented by a serpent and its colors are green and silver, which are prominently displayed in the garments and scarves worn by its students.
Slytherin students have access to the exclusive Slytherin Common Room, located in the dungeons below the Grand Staircase, underneath the large lake.
The watery glow from the windows provides a breathtaking view of the fish swimming below. While joining Slytherin may not greatly affect the story of Hogwarts Legacy, it does provide a unique opportunity to get to know some of your fellow 5th-year Slytherin classmates, including Ominis Gaunt, Imelda Reyes, and Sebastian Sallow.
Sebastian has a particularly important storyline that you will be able to experience through companion quests.
Slytherin has a rich history, with notable alumni including the Bloody Baron, Merlin, Tom Riddle, and Severus Snape, most of whom attended Hogwarts long after the events of the game. If you're looking to explore the darker side of the wizarding world, Slytherin may be the perfect house for you.

Slytherin Side Quest:

The "Scrope's Last Hope" quest is a thrilling experience exclusive to Slytherin students in Hogwarts Legacy.
In this quest, players have the opportunity to aid a house-elf named Scrope, who works for the notorious Black family.
This is the same family that the current Headmaster Phineas Nigellus Black hails from and includes notable figures such as Sirius Black, Bellatrix Lestrange, and Narcissa Malfoy from the Harry Potter franchise.
In this quest, Scrope will ask players to embark on a journey to retrieve a special ring within a mysterious cave.
The task, assigned to you by the house elf Scrope, is to retrieve the ring and deliver it to the Headmaster as a gift.
The journey will lead you through the intriguing Grotto, where you must navigate its twists and turns to uncover the ring.
But there's more to this quest than meets the eye, as the missing pages needed to complete the "Jackdraw's Rest" main story quest are also hidden within the cave.
By helping Scrope retrieve the ring, you will also take the first step towards uncovering the secrets of the "Jackdraw's Rest" quest and becoming a hero in your own right.

Ravenclaw

As a student of Ravenclaw, you'll be known for your unwavering pursuit of knowledge, wit, and creative intelligence.
This house, founded by the legendary Rowena Ravenclaw, values academic excellence and the mastery of spells and magic above all else.
Represented by the proud symbol of an eagle and adorned in the striking colors of blue and bronze, Ravenclaw students exude a sense of wisdom and prestige.
Access to the Ravenclaw Common Room is granted through a series of riddles, providing a unique challenge for its members.
This spacious and airy room offers breathtaking views of the Hogwarts grounds, perfect for moments of quiet reflection or intellectual contemplation.
While sorting into Ravenclaw won't greatly affect the main story, it provides opportunities to get to know your fellow classmates like Duncan Everett Clopton, Samantha Dare, and Amit Thakkar, who may join you on companion quests.
Additionally, the proud alumni of Ravenclaw include renowned figures like the Gray Lady, Uric the Oddball, Filius Flitwick, Sybill Trelawney, and Luna Lovegood, all of whom have left their own mark on the wizarding world.

Ravenclaw Sidequest

Embark on the "Ollivander's Heirloom" quest, exclusive to members of the Ravenclaw house.
This journey, starting in Hogsmeade with a visit to Mr. Ollivander, challenges players to find a lost wand and uncover the missing pages needed. Your search leads you to the Owlery at Hogwarts castle where you'll find alcoves both filled with owls and hidden from view.
Utilize the spell Accio to reveal these hidden alcoves and retrieve the necessary Jackdaw statues.
Once you've collected all of the statues, place them in the correct locations to complete the house-exclusive quest and initiate interactions with Richard Jackdaw as part of the main story quest, "Jackdaw's Rest."
The journey ahead, filled with puzzles and riddles, will test the creative intelligence and wit that Ravenclaw students are known for.

Hufflepuff

Watch on YouTube
The Hufflepuff House, known for its warmth and inclusivity, is home to students who value hard work, patience, loyalty, and fair play.
While not as flashy as other houses, its members are dependable and capable of great things.
Founded by Helga Hufflepuff, the house is symbolized by a badger and adorned in yellow and black, which are prominent on the clothing worn by its students.
The Hufflepuff common room, nestled in the cellars close to the Great Hall's kitchens and the house-elf quarters, is a cozy and inviting space filled with plants and wildlife, as seen in the video above.
Being sorted into Hufflepuff won't change the story significantly, but it provides opportunities to get to know 5th-year Hufflepuff students such as Adelaide Oakes, Authur Plummly, and Lenora Everleigh, as well as Poppy Sweeting, who has an important companion questline.
Some of the other notable Hufflepuff alumni include the Fat Friar, Newton Scamander, and Cedric Diggory.

Hufflepuff Sidequest

Embark on the “Prisoner of Love” quest, exclusively available to members of the Hufflepuff house.
This quest takes you on a journey to the infamous Azkaban, the wizarding world's notorious prison.
Along the way, you will have the opportunity to speak with Eldritch Diggory, a relative of the iconic character Cedric Diggory from Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.
Eldritch will ask for your help in solving the unsolved murder of Richard Jackdaw, leading you on a journey to Hogsmeade and ultimately to Azkaban.
Your mission will bring you to the search for a hidden cave containing a vault, where you will ultimately have the chance to converse with Richard Jackdaw and embark on the “Jackdaw's Rest” main story quest.
For any true Harry Potter fan, the “Prisoner of Love” quest is a must-do, as it is the only way to visit Azkaban and gain a deeper understanding of the witchcraft and wizarding world.
So don't miss this opportunity to experience this exclusive aspect of the Hogwarts Legacy.
