"DCL - The Game" is the official drone racing game of Drone Champions AG.
Released both digitally and as physical copies for PC & Mac (via Steam), XBox One, and PlayStation 4, it was published by THQ Nordic.
Work for DCL involved primarily game development: both gameplay with Unreal Engine 4, as well as a live service backend using Python in combination with PostgreSQL (all hosted on Google Cloud Platform).
My work ensured that the game had a smooth launch
I also developed a large amount of internal tooling as a full-stack development project, to help create in-game events, manage in-game news, administrating bans, and more.
For the live races, I maintained mission-critical timing software, results of which were fed into live TV streams to show live race ranking and (ultimately) to determine the race winner; as well as various smaller on-site tasks as on-call/emergency tech support.
Unfortunately, live races were eventually stopped due to COVID-19, during which the focus was instead shifted towards the game & virtual races (E-sports).
