Megan Apostol's Work | ContraWork by Megan ApostolMegan Apostol

I would like to formally apologise to everyone who ever told me to get a hobby.
I fear I've misunderstood the assignment.
September: Manila, then Bangkok. October: Bali.
The plan? Work remotely, dance, meet people, and make decisions that would disappoint my ancestors.
EXCEPT WHY IS GOING OUT SO MUCH ADMIN???
One club charges cover. Another won't tell you how much. One has amazing reviews and four people inside, three of whom work there.
The DJ sounds like two washing machines arguing. AND THE TRANSITIONS???
Someone's hungry. Someone's tired. Someone wants techno.
I'd like to file a formal complaint against techno.
Someone's lost their bag.
And somehow I'm responsible for where we're going next, how we get there, and whether everyone returns with the same number of limbs.
SIR. I CAME HERE TO SWEAT TO RIHANNA.
NOT MANAGE OPERATION DESERT STORM.
Then I remembered something dangerous.
I have Base44. I have AI. I have an unhealthy relationship with sleep and Coke Zero (still waiting on that sponsorship, Coca-Cola).
So instead of developing coping mechanisms or choosing a different club LIKE A NORMAL PERSON, I built an entire nightlife platform.
Meet AfterHours.
Find clubs, bars, events and hosted nights. Explore 10 cities. Organise your friends. Book nights together. Coordinate with hosts, navigate language barriers, sort rides, and keep track of your belongings.
There's even infrastructure for venues and drivers because APPARENTLY I DON'T BELIEVE IN HALF-ASSING A PROBLEM.
All built with Base44.
I'm entering the Contra x Base44 challenge because two months of enthusiastic field research across Southeast Asia deserve SOME academic recognition.
Or prize money. I'm not particular.
Actually, I take that back. Give me the prize money. I want this deployed internationally.
Anyway.
Bad decisions should be recreational, not infrastructural.

#Base44 #Contra #AfterHours #BuildInPublic Tower of Base is built as a submission for a One Prompt, explore the growth of Base44 through a dynamic, interactive typographic monument built from global contributions Breakwater is a private emotional release and anonymous peer-support space for people carrying thoughts, anger, grief, fear, loneliness or overwhelm that they don’t know what to do with.
Because right now, the options often feel like:
Keep it inside.
Write it in a notes app and sit with it alone.
Put it on social media where everyone can see it.
Or somehow find the courage to tell someone, when you may not even know what to say.
Breakwater creates another option.
Write it into a private digital jar.
Keep it entirely to yourself.
Take it into the Rage Room and smash it when you need the release.
Or, when you don’t want to be alone with it anymore, float it anonymously as a bottle and let another human being answer.
Peer messages are screened in both directions, identities stay hidden, and private entries remain private unless you deliberately choose to share them.
And when you don’t want to talk at all, Drift gives you somewhere quieter to land, with guided breathing, finite calming activities, the sea, and access to local crisis resources when more support is needed.
Breakwater is built around one simple belief:
You shouldn’t have to choose between carrying everything alone and telling the whole world.
Sometimes you just need somewhere to put it.
Sometimes you need to smash it.
Sometimes you need one stranger to say:
I heard you.
That’s what Breakwater is for.
Write it. Smash it. Float it. Stay afloat. 🌊

Mirror Mirror is a beauty school that teaches on your own face.
Your device becomes the mirror.
The mirror becomes the teacher.
It can read your face shape and eye shape, adapt lessons to your features, and guide you through techniques directly in the camera instead of making you mentally translate somebody else’s tutorial onto yourself.
And because I cannot build one normal feature and then behave myself, it now also has:
💎 42 lessons across 7 tracks, from foundations and skincare to brows, eyes, cheeks and lips.
💎 Complete looks you can practise before you actually need them.
💎 An AI big sister you can ask questions while you are doing your makeup. “Is this blush too much?” is now a legitimate technical query.
💎 A private album so you can actually see your progress instead of relying on the highly scientific measurement of “I think I am slightly less bad at this now.” Peer reviewed by: me staring at myself in the bathroom mirror. Women in STEM.
💎 A planner for looks you want to practise, because discovering you cannot do a smoky eye 14 minutes before leaving the house is technically poor project management.
💎 Levels, XP, jewels and brooches because if I am learning eyeliner, I would personally like a tiny shiny object for my suffering.
But more importantly:
Your makeup bag is not treated as an excuse to make you buy more things.
You can photograph what you already own and Mirror Mirror works with that first.
If you want something new, it can sit on a 30-day wait list before you decide whether you actually want it.
Because the beauty industry is already very good at convincing us the solution is always another product.
Meanwhile the seventeen lip products already living in your house would like the opportunity to present their case.
You can also bring a tutorial you already love and Mirror Mirror can turn it into a lesson adapted to your face.
Which is basically my way of saying:
I see your 67 saved tutorials and I raise you an app that makes them useful.
