Hello Friends! I created this short film in under two weeks, based on my own script, as an entry to Runway’s Big Ad Contest. For the brief, I chose Product #4: Crown & Quill Bookmark. The idea is simple: books are only valuable if you know what page to return to. Instead of showing this directly, I approached it through everyday behavior — what happens when people use anything but a bookmark. The result is a quiet accumulation of misplaced objects, lost context, and small disruptions that affect both readers and library workers. The film draws from real events in Finnish libraries, where returned books often contain unexpected objects used as improvised bookmarks — from food to deeply personal items. News reports describe findings such as sausage, sandwiches, and even condom wrappers between pages. At Helsinki Central Library Oodi, staff have built a growing “memory wall” of these objects — a quiet archive of everyday traces left behind by readers. https://www.hs.fi/kulttuuri/art-2000011018119.html https://yle.fi/a/3-9528149 The idea is also rooted in personal experience: I’ve found dental picks inside library books, and once even received a call after leaving my European Health Insurance Card between the pages. I used Runway’s tools throughout the process — including Cinematic Brainstorm for developing the scenes and built-in tools for generating SFX — and edited the final video in CapCut, where I recently joined the Creative Partner Program. #RunwayBigAdContest

I only had a couple of days to take part, so I made a short video rather than trying to overbuild it. Even within that limited time, I wanted to bring something essential from my artistic practice into the piece: emotion, atmosphere, and my ongoing exploration of how women are represented in visual culture. My work often moves between photography, contemporary art, generative AI with strong artistic autorship, and this short piece became a small extension of that thinking. This was a case study I developed for my students during my AI image course at Helsinki Summer University. Together we explored how an editorial visual language can continue consistently from image to image and further into moving image within AI-based visual production. The focus was not the technology itself, but authorship — how AI can be used consciously as part of a creative process. For me, AI is not about generating images, but about how visual worlds are directed, shaped and continued by the maker. Alongside my artistic work, I now offer trainings as well as commissioned visual and animation projects for clients working with AI in their visual production. Eden Laura Rautjoki & AI, 2026.

Cover image for I worked at Flora of
I worked at Flora of Finland as an entrepreneur together with my business partner from 2016 to 2018. In this collaboration, I photographed and retouched portraits of Finnish wild plants for the Flora of Finland collection. We produced and released products such as limited edition art posters, glass prints, and linen towels. The products were sold through retailers across Finland, with a strong presence in art museum stores. Flora of Finland was featured in various art and design publications and exhibitions, including in Japan.

Cover image for AI images created to meet
AI images created to meet client-specific needs by tailoring the AI process to each case and its target audience. These images have not been post-processed (such as text edits). My extensive background as a photographer and image editor forms the foundation for delivering high-quality, polished illustrations suitable for advertising and print production. With me, it is possible to execute the entire production chain from start to finish — whether the project involves still images or video.
