Hi there, delighted to share my entry "World Horizons", just in the nick of time! It's an Animal Crossing-inspired cozy 3D globe of good news: an antidote to doomscrolling, built directly on World Bank data 🌍 Interact with countries to either test your knowledge or read dialogue designed to teach you about the progress being made, showing how life there is really improving across categories like water, literacy, health and poverty. And why? If you read the news or use social media (who doesn't?), you're probably under the misconception that things are in a constant state of getting worse. Inspired by Hans Rosling's "Factfulness", I wanted to make real progress more tangible for adults and kids alike. It's an AI project with a human touch. Core features Test mode: guess the trend before the answer reveals. Learn mode + Almanac: collect each country's good-news story, illustrated with a unique AI postcard for each country. Put yourself in the game: turn a selfie into your own 3D character that walks the globe. Extra UI: a torch to light your way in the dark, and a music toggle. How we built it Scaffolded with AI coding tools (React + react-three-fiber), then refined the front end in Figma Make. Backend on Supabase, data from the World Bank API. Character creation chains Grok Vision and Imagine (selfie to stylised drawing) into Meshy (image reference to rigged 3D model). What's next… Paywall the custom character creation (Meshy credits cost money), while keeping the globe, data, and learning free for all. And maybe a permanent home on Figma?
