Animation works best when it makes the product feel easier. We leaned hard into that idea here. Latest with the incredible First Bite team.

Hospitable gave us one job. Make a short-term rental host feel seen and use story to drive a feeling. No feature walkthroughs, just a video that a new short term rental host would relate to. What we landed on was a voicemail. A host leaving a message for a friend who just listed their first place. And for the visuals we landed on approaching it from the POV the host's iPhone. What are moments a host would actually capture in the lead up to hosting for the first time? We made the whole thing with generative AI. That's the part some people will push back on, and that's fair. But most of our time went into restraint. Pulling the generated stuff back until it felt ordinary and lived-in instead of shiny. AI just let us build that world without a five-figure shoot getting between us and the idea. Multiple models for the homes and the people, Seedance for video, and VO with elevenlabs. It was refreshing to use these tools to chase a feeling, not just try to wow people with AI. We learned a ton in this project and look forward to creating more with this team.

Cover image for For this challenge, I'm excited

For this challenge, I'm excited to share this first glimpse at an AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication) app, named after my own non-speaking son whose name just happens to have the letters "aac" in his name! You'll meet him in the first half of the video. The idea for a new AAC app that used animated characters to speak the words came to me during my first few weeks of learning Rive, and I'm so happy that this challenge has pushed me to make a considerable amount of progress and be able to show some of the features that set it apart, besides the fun interactive characters. The ability to quickly add and remove words, quick phrases, easy to read icons, and intuitive categories, are all part of the app experience, and the characters (starting with just a couple ready-made characters, but eventually a custom avatar builder) bring an element of fun to the otherwise purely functional world of AAC. When it's ready, I hope this app makes it easier and more fun for families, caregivers, and language-delayed people everywhere to communicate with each other. Thank you for watching this video!

Cover image for Hey friends! Here's the WRAD

Hey friends! Here's the WRAD (https://www.wrad.work) team submission for the Games with @Rive challenge! We decided to build a prototype for a deckbuilding roguelike, but with realtime combat mechanics like a Dark Souls stamina bar and a parry mechanic. Thanks for checking out the video; let me know what you think!
