Everyone wants to know which SMR company will win.
But I think that is the wrong question.
The better question is:
Who is actually getting closer to building one?
In 2026, a good reactor design is not enough.
A company can have:
• a smart reactor design • billions in backing • government support • a detailed roadmap • years of engineering
And still be far from putting a reactor on the ground.
So I looked at the SMR race differently.
Not at the promises.
At the evidence.
Licensing. Construction. Regulatory approvals. Site progress. Supply chains. Actual deployment milestones.
In other words:
What has really happened?
My latest investigation, “Who Is Actually Ahead in SMRs in 2026?”, looks at the leading companies and compares where they actually stand.
And the picture is not as simple as a list of reactor designs.
Because right now, the real race is not just about who has the best reactor.
It is about who can actually get one built.
That is where the gap between a good story and real progress starts to show.
