recently wrapped a project called Unjamm, sharing it because it was honestly one of the most fun builds i've worked on.
airlines owe passengers a lot of money in flight-delay compensation every year, but most people never claim it. the process is scattered across 5 different regulations depending on where you fly (EU 261, UK 261, Canada APPR, US DOT, Montreal Convention) and each one has its own weird edge cases.
we built it to automate the whole thing. you forward your flight confirmation to the claims inbox, it monitors the flight in real time, and if the delay qualifies it files the claim with the airline and keeps following up until you actually get paid.
trickiest part was the rules engine. mapping every flight against all those regulations without missing edge cases like codeshares, connecting flights, weather exemptions. ended up building it as a decision tree that a lawyer helped audit.
stack was Laravel, MySQL, a bunch of state machines for the claim flow, and a real-time flight data provider.

forgot to add, if anyone's curious about the flight data side, i used AviationStack with AeroDataBox as a fallback. handling the cases where they disagreed on delay minutes was its own little side quest.

The OTP step is where these apps quietly leak or annoy. On Android the SMS Retriever API fills the code without READ_SMS, and a resend timer with backoff stops users hammering it. Worth checking sign-in errors too, a distinct "no account" message hands an attacker a list of valid numbers.
