But I would suggest you to edit your showreel, a SaaS launch video, a brand/ad film with the available footage or free stock videos. It will eventually make you better and the clients might get to know your quality. Just an personal opinion, still like your spirit👍
What are the most important traits/skills you should look out for in a motion designer and video editor?
Nope. Software mastery ISN'T the first thing.
After editing over 300 videos, the two most important skill I'd say you look out for in a motion designer and video editor is:
1. Storytelling. Meaning, can they get you to better understand the message?
2. Leadership. Meaning, although their edit is complex, can they lead your eyes through that complexity without making you feel overwhelmed?
These two things, in my opinion, matter more than any other thing.
