I'm going to be honest: the comparison between this AI-generated video and the commercial for Apple's new Mac Mini launch has no basis for comparison. For me, making stop motion is the most fun part of the process, while the hardest part is creating the commercial itself, thinking it through, and planning everything.
It's true that there are many things you can do with AI in seconds, and in many cases you might not even notice them. However, achieving something as creative as this Apple commercial requires a massive amount of prior work.
For the creator, the process involves pitching millions of ideas to the client until finding the one that fits. Then comes writing the script, putting together storyboards, examples, and moodboards, while facing endless rejections and adjustments. Only after clearing all those stages do you move on to producing the stop motion, then deal with the client's notes after the shoot, which usually include extremely precise changes that sometimes force you to reshoot. Only at the very end of that road do you reach the final version of the ad.
Furthermore, the craftsmanship behind stop motion has something that AI cannot replicate: an extreme care to make everything look natural, real, and perfectly aligned with the brand identity.
Anyone who thinks making an ad like this boils down to spending less than a dollar on a prompt has definitely never worked in the creative industry. Sure, there will be those who are fine with a car having six wheels or with strange results being shown to the general public, but in ninety-nine percent of cases, that just doesn't cut it.
So, even if you can technically spend very little money to replicate this ad with AI, the person who believes a simple prompt can replace all of this work is only trying to put technology above artisanal effort. They don't know what they are talking about, and they almost certainly lack true creativity, which is why they limit themselves to copying an existing ad and making a re-version, instead of creating something original and good for themselves.
I think it is something to wonder about.
