I rebuilt a real UK charity's books from scratch in Xero.
Narthex Sparkhill — a Birmingham-based charity running 7 community programmes including a Foodbank, Advice Centre, and Domestic Violence Support service.
Starting point: zero entries in a blank Xero organisation.
End point: a fully balanced set of accounts reconciled to within 0.3% of their real filed figures.
What went into it:
✦ 30-account Chart of Accounts built on UK Charities SORP framework
✦ Restricted vs. Unrestricted Fund tracking — a legal requirement for UK charities
✦ 31 contacts (real UK funders: National Lottery Community Fund, Comic Relief, Birmingham City Council)
✦ 7 Programme Tracking Categories for per-service reporting
✦ 215 bank transactions — imported and cash coded in bulk
✦ Full invoice-to-payment cycle for the Birmingham City Council grant
✦ Year-end depreciation journal: £9,921 (exact figure from real filed accounts)
Final P&L: £908,800 income vs. £911,700 real filed — 0.3% variance.
Balance Sheet: fully balanced to the penny.

It links every extracted value to visible source evidence, routes ambiguous fields into a focused review queue, detects risky duplicates, and previews a new-file-only spreadsheet export before anything leaves the workspace.I built this six-screen Flowstep prototype around one principle: automation should make financial work easier to verify, not harder to question. Project Monitoring Dashboard created in Microsoft Power BI for Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning (MEAL). This interactive dashboard tracks project progress, beneficiary statistics, gender and displacement status, KPI performance, and geographic coverage. The dashboard includes data cleaning, data modeling, DAX measures, interactive filters, and dynamic visualizations. All confidential information has been anonymized for portfolio purposes.
