A lot of the scraping advice still floating around dates back to when rotating a User-Agent string and adding a time.sleep() was enough to get past most defenses.
That stopped working a while ago. Sites now fingerprint your browser, your TLS handshake, and your mouse behavior before they even look at your request headers.
If you're still building scrapers the way you did a few years back, you're going to burn through IPs fast and wonder why.

One mistake I see developers make is setting up authentication and forgetting about Row Level Security (RLS).
If you're using Supabase, don't just create your tables and move on.
Make sure you:
✅ Enable RLS on your tables
✅ Create policies for who can read data
✅ Create policies for who can insert or update data
✅ Never expose sensitive service keys in the frontend
✅ Test your policies with different user accounts
Authentication tells you who the user is. RLS helps control what they can access.

The journey started with pen and paper. I used the same kind of notebook that I use to keep a diary. I had only heard of REST APIs. A little. Like what they were... And slowly, over the next 6 months, I picked up the structural understanding and shipped a consumer intelligence platform.
I am now building an MCP wrapper for Signalwatch. The right internship even pays $20 - $30 per hour. Previously, the highest I earned per hour was $2.2.
It was not earning more dollars that got me on this path. It was a clique that probably played a prank and told me that a person from wher I come from should not handle queries from certain big clients. long story..., and a positive outcome.
It is a lifetime journey now.
