Probably no one will ever say this on Contra… I started video editing career completely by accident. For me it was just a hobby. My first job happened by mistake. I thought I would do it as a favor for free and somehow got paid for it. Every step after that also felt unplanned. I never studied any of this professionally. I learned everything on my own by watching random YouTube videos (not even proper courses or structured tutorials). No mentors. I never met a single person working in a creative field. In my country most people still do not really understand what video editing is. My way is different. It might not be as polished as people who learned it academically, but it made my work feel special, personal, and not a copy of everyone else. I just built my own way. People call me a professional now… but the truth is I still do not know what the professional path usually looks like (what they studied, how they learned, or the steps they took).Because I did not know what the correct path for this career is, I tried a lot of different things and learned on my way. So I want to ask the video editors here: what was your journey like? What does a (normal) path in this career actually look like? I would love to hear your stories.
