coming from upwork to contra, what a ride. contra wins on the fact that there's no connects, there's a community, and it always pushes you to interact and be active to reach a better score.
the thing is, after a lot of applications, got some nice interactions, reached the point of contracts, and then... nothing. clients that completely disappeared. 👻
happened quite a few times. not the most inspiring feeling... well, this is to say - i didn't give up, and even if it might seem like baby steps, it is a step. 🐾
a win is a win. honestly i was hesitating to share this, because it's 0% about the number.
it's so much more that someone trusted my work, gave it a shot!
So I think it's fair to sayyyy, i'm onto you contra 🤍
I’ve earned over $1M on Contra, and now I’m opening up the profile behind that number.
The Contra Handbook is live.
It brings together how I present my work, structure my services and make it easier for a client to understand what they can hire me for.
And making it meant putting my own profile under inspection.
There was a typo in my title. 20 services that needed cutting down. 14 products with no reviews between them. Those changes are part of the course. You watch me work through them on screen, with the reasoning behind each decision.
Across eight modules, you work through your own profile too. Each chapter ends with something concrete to change, and the final module brings it into a 90-day plan.
You get the videos, written Handbook, profile scorecard, role specific guidance and access to The Ledger, the private course group.
If you’ve put real effort into your work and want your Contra profile to represent it properly, this is for you.
For those of you landing clients and jobs on Contra — what’s actually working for you?
I’m a Software Developer working primarily with React, Next.js, TypeScript, Supabase, and APIs, and I’ve been building and sharing more of my projects here.
I’m curious:
How did you land your first client on Contra?
Was it through applying to opportunities, your portfolio, posting consistently, networking, or clients reaching out to you?
And what made the biggest difference in getting responses?
I’d love to hear from developers and freelancers who’ve figured out what works on Contra. Any advice is appreciated! 🙏🏾
