Propeida — Exam Prep to Career Clarity, in One App

The Problem

Nigerian students preparing for JAMB and Post-UTME have plenty of past-question apps, but almost none of them answer the question that actually matters after the exam: what does this course lead to? Students pick courses based on prestige or peer pressure, not on labor market reality, skill requirements, or where a field is actually headed. The result is a huge population of capable students who are exam-ready but career-blind.

The Solution

Propeida is a free JAMB and Post-UTME prep platform built around a simple idea: practice and discovery should live in the same product. It combines:

Timed CBT mock exams with recollected, hand-verified, and re-checked questions — built to mirror the real exam format and timing pressure

Performance tracking by subject, so students see exactly where they're weak

A career intelligence feed that shows, for any course, where it's in demand across sectors, what skills employers actually screen for, and what career paths it opens up

University-specific coverage (starting with UNILORIN, with more institutions rolling out) rather than a one-school tool

The product is deliberately framed as a journey — Prepare → Discover → Understand → Build → Move — rather than a single-purpose quiz app, which shapes both the UX flow and the onboarding narrative.

Design Decisions

Light, white UI instead of the dark dashboards common in edtech — the goal was to read as trustworthy, human-built software rather than a generic AI-generated SaaS template

Text-first, low-data design so a full mock exam is usable on a budget phone connection, which matters for the target user base

General-brand positioning: even though UNILORIN was the first fully supported school, the product and copy were deliberately kept school-agnostic to support multi-institution growth rather than getting anchored to one university's identity

Plain, non-robotic copy — avoiding the "engineered to..." AI-slop tone common in student-facing products

Technical Approach

Built solo on Next.js and Supabase, with Paystack for the optional Pro upgrade tier (a three-tier entitlement model gates advanced features while keeping core practice free). As a solo builder, I worked with AI coding agents for implementation while owning architecture, product strategy, and UX decisions myself.

Outcome

Propeida is live and growing organically, trusted by 250+ Nigerian students preparing for JAMB and Post-UTME so far, with UNILORIN mock exams live now and JAMB coverage rolling out next.
