One thing I’ve learned from building products: a design is only the happy path.
Once development starts, you have to answer everything the mockup doesn’t show:
- What happens when an API fails? - What does an empty state look like? - What if the data takes time to load? - How does the layout behave on smaller screens? - What happens when a user repeats an action?
These aren’t just development problems, they often change the UX too.
That’s why I like working across 𝐝𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐧 + 𝐟𝐮𝐥𝐥-𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐜𝐤 𝐝𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐩𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭. You can catch these problems early instead of discovering them after the handoff.
A good interface shows the happy path. A good product is ready for everything else.
