Rewind Frame
Most AR filters get called "computer vision magic," but a lot of them are just clever masking. I wanted to see how far that idea goes, so I built Rewind Frame. You make a frame with your thumbs and index fingers, and inside it you see yourself from a few seconds ago while everything outside stays live. Wave your hand, then open the frame and watch the wave play back. No green screen, no segmentation model, no training.
Here's what's happening underneath. MediaPipe tracks your hands, and I only use two of the 21 landmarks per hand: thumb tip and index fingertip. Those four points get smoothed and turned into a clean shape with a convex hull. Every frame also goes into a rolling buffer with a timestamp, so I can pull the one from exactly N seconds ago (timestamps instead of frame counts, so 3 seconds really is 3 seconds). Then I blend that old frame through the shape with a feathered mask. It's Python and OpenCV, and the code is on https://github.com/AnuragNagare/Rewind-Frame.git https://medium.com/@anuragnagare77/i-built-a-time-portal-you-hold-in-your-hands-0d91afde09b1?sharedUserId=anuragnagare77
