Here's a thing nobody tells you when you start building software: writing code that works is the easy part. Writing code that keeps working after real people start poking at it — that's the actual job.

I ran into this recently with an email pipeline that was triggered by a cron job. It worked, technically. But "did the campaign actually send?" kept turning into a support ticket instead of something anyone could just check. So I rebuilt it around an event-driven queue — less because it's the trendy pattern and more because now the system can just answer that question on its own.

Same story with API calls that had grown organically over time. Swapped them for a typed client layer, and suddenly there were fewer late-night bugs and a lot less explaining needed when someone new touched the code.

None of this is about chasing the newest tool. It's about asking "will this still make sense in six months, to someone who isn't me" — and building for that answer instead of just the one that ships today.
