That one sentence changed how we designed the whole project.
An influencer marketing platform for the African market. Payments through USSD — the banking system that runs on basic phones via text codes.
No Stripe. No card forms. The payment interface guides users through a process that happens partly outside the app, on their phone's dialer.
It forced us to rethink assumptions we carry from European SaaS. Low bandwidth. Small screens. Users comfortable with mobile money but unfamiliar with web dashboards.
Knowing your user's device and payment method tells you more about what to design than any competitor analysis.
