BENGAL WORKFORCE — Fictional Archive of Modern Labour (Company School Style)
01 / Fictional Archive What if a British Company School artist in 1820s Patna documented today's Bengal? I built a fictional archive that reimagines modern professions — barber with trimmer, tea-seller, delivery man — as flat-wash gouache studies on aged paper.
Why I built it: Colonial Company School paintings preserved everyday workers, not kings. I wanted to continue that lineage for our time. I trained a Recraft Style on Patna Company School occupational studies [1800-1899] to keep the same faded beige paper, soft outlines, and minimal wash.
From Archive to Imagination: 10 studies of modern life. Each figure holds the tool of their trade, like the original Lucknow attendant with slippers. All sources are Public Domain, secular, pre-1931.
Built with Recraft Style + Grok Imagine motion reference.:
