Just wrapped up a really interesting project I wanted to share.

A client came to us because they were tired of paying hundreds of dollars every month for third-party time tracking software like Timely — while still struggling with messy hour tracking, manual approvals, and scattered workflows.

So instead of forcing their team around another external platform, we built them their own desktop time tracking system: Insight Hours.

The app runs quietly in the background on both Mac and Windows (built with Electron) and automatically tracks: • active apps and windows • work sessions • idle time • optional screenshots • project activity

Everything syncs directly to their internal admin portal, where managers can review, tag, and approve sessions in real time.

The biggest win wasn’t just replacing the software subscription — it was removing operational friction. No more spreadsheets, end-of-month guesswork, or chasing people for hours. The entire process became part of their own workflow and infrastructure.

One of the most satisfying moments was seeing managers reviewing sessions just an hour after work was completed during the very first week of rollout. That’s when you know the system is actually solving a real operational problem.

I genuinely think more businesses will start moving away from generic SaaS subscriptions and toward custom internal tools built specifically around how their teams operate.
