Project Name: A NEW DAWN
Project Description: Inspired by the theoretical Von Neumann probes: This project explores space probes that can create more of themselves using material widely available in the galaxy.
Imagine sending off a probe to a distant solar system, the probe autonomously collecting materials from asteroids or planets there and using those materials to create more probes, and those probes flying off to other solar systems.
This is an idea explored in various ways of science fiction but the view of this inspiration looks at an infinite universe and the replicas not a cosmic virus but an infinite explorer and humanity blessed with the richness of knowledge that they gather along their journey.
The video shows a probe landing in the Trojan asteroid belt and mining and replicating itself before continuing it's journey with the new replica to distant space with continued broadcast back to earth.
Process: I started by laying out the goal of the project which was to create space probes that can create more of themselves using materials widely available in the galaxy. Something that can be sent off to far distant solar system and autonomously collecting materials from asteroids and planets there and using those materials to create more probes, and then those probes flying off to other systems.
I then adjusted the assets to remove inconsistencies like space probe replicas propelling from both directions which defeats acceleration and had this resolved. I then emphasized value addition to humanity where we moved to the stage of the bridge which was the communication back home in visualized radio waves and the new dawn which represents silhouettes of families and scientists in a futuristic mission control on earth with a high resolution image of the vibrant Kepler 452b taken by one of the replicas in its orbit.
Feedback on Using Melius: Using Melius is really a fun experience as it's very easy to get ideas off the ground in a way that drastically improves iteration time.
