An exploration of tonal values and sharp detailing. In this piece, I utilized various grades of graphite to create deep blacks in the suit and hair, contrasting with soft, blended skin tones. Capturing the intricate details of the eyewear and facial hair required high levels of precision and patience.

I don't usually like to complain about clients on here, but the client on this project was an absolute NIGHTMARE to work with ;)

There's truly nothing worse as an illustrator than trying to make an illustration for yourself! I went through so many ideas and styles before landing on this one.

Of course the final design I landed on is the one I was secretly wanting to do from the start. I kept coming up with reasons not to - it doesn't quite match the style in my portfolio, the colors are weird, there's not enough deep symbolism, blah blah... but in the end this was the only design that felt right.
