Death Has a Temp is a supernatural dark-comedy micro-series about Maya Graves, a former technical-support worker who accidentally finds herself working for the Department of Mortality, with Death himself as her boss.

In the pilot, Maya begins what she thinks will be a strange but manageable first day. When she reviews her first death assignment, she discovers that the man scheduled to die has already been dead for decades. What begins as a possible clerical error quickly reveals a much larger problem: someone is changing the records that determine who lives and who dies.

I wanted to create a character-driven series that combines workplace comedy, mystery, and supernatural worldbuilding. Maya approaches impossible situations the way she approached technical-support problems: stay calm, find the error, and troubleshoot it. Her practical personality contrasts with Death’s ancient, serious, bureaucratic approach.

The story continues beyond the pilot as Maya and Death investigate the corrupted mortality system, encounter the Reaper — Death’s former soul collector — and discover that something called the Administrator may have been secretly altering mortality records for centuries.

The series is designed so each short episode can introduce a strange new mortality case while also advancing the larger mystery of who actually controls life and death.
