I took on a contract to redesign an app’s flow and interface while retaining its brand feel.
The UX improved. It was intuitive. It worked. Then user research told a different story. The app felt too techy for its industry.
Back to the drawing board!
The structure was solid, but the interface didn’t feel like it belonged.
I kept playing with colours. Nothing clicked. So I reframed the question.
Not “What colours work?” But “What brand expression truly resonates with this audience?”
That shift changed everything. Once the brand direction became clear, the interface followed.
Sometimes the problem isn’t the layout. Sometimes it’s the identity.

Love this takeaway solving for layout is easy; solving for brand resonance is the real challenge. Great example of design thinking in action.
