The offset cards turn a plain list into a sequence, which suits gaps that feed into each other. Did you try linking them with a connector line, or did the stagger alone carry the order well enough?

Thankyou Artur! I felt the stagger alone carried the sequence well enough, keeping the layout clean while naturally guiding the eye from one card to the next. A connector line could work too, but I wanted to avoid adding visual clutter.
