Since I discovered Contra a few months ago I started to realize how promising this community can be for the ones that come from deceptive experiences, but I also slowly began to wonder if traditional arts and manual crafts have a place here.
I know Contra is really invested in digital design and AI and is providing great tools and resources to inspire a lot of artists.
Because of this momentum it seems the perfect time to ask who is trying to showcase and sell their manual crafts here: sculpting, painting, handmade jewelry... you name it and inspire Contra to offer a platform for the artists that want to offer analogue art.
I know the challenges are big: competition from other sites, shipping, payment processing...etc but I think Contra will become an even more special place for us to achieve better exposure.

Hi Nicolette! Yeah the photo and the still life composition are mine but I didn't sculpt the earthenware pitcher myself if that's what you mean. I wish I had the skills to do this and many other things like drawing, and painting! But I'll learn some day!.

1. Treat Contra as a partner.
Invite clients to Contra, invite creatives to Contra, process your digital goods through Contra, they will reward you with a higher visibility.
2.Increase your visibility outside of Contra.
Good presence will lead people to you eventually, then you can process things through Contra.
3. Work on your skills.
It's a platitude, but it's truly the best thing you can do for yourself.
4. Posting is overrated unless you have a talent for social media.
It's mostly freelances trying to sell things to freelancers who are trying to sell things.

Feels like I joined Contra just yesterday - and today I'm in the top 1% of creatives. Pretty wild.
Curious to know. How long did it take?
I encountered The African Sentinel and was captivated by the fact that even the Met can't explain what he's guarding - their own catalogue calls him "an enigmatic inclusion that cannot be readily explained."
So I answered the question. Vedder didn't invent him; he encountered him, and painted what he assumed he was seeing. A peasant. A musket. A hill. He was wrong about all three.
He cannot be readily explained because he was never meant to be seen.
The whole piece is held in Vedder's own Macchiaioli hand - flat unblended patches, dry paint, visible canvas weave, his palette and his composition intact - so that only three things change: the object, the ground, and where he's looking.

Answering the Met's own unsolved question instead of just illustrating the piece is a bold way to approach a brief like this. Did you look into other theories about the Sentinel before landing on your answer, or go with your first instinct?
