54 Shades of Whimsy 🃏♠️
What if a simple deck of playing cards could feel like a little piece of art history?
That thought became the starting point for 54 Shades of Whimsy - a playing card collection inspired by the elegance of Art Nouveau, vintage illustrations, ornamental patterns, and the beauty of nature.
I wanted each card to feel like it belonged to the same little universe, yet carry its own personality. From delicate florals and colourful birds to royal characters, intricate details, and playful expressions, every card was an opportunity to explore a different shade of whimsy.
I spent time gathering inspiration from historical artworks, decorative motifs, and vintage illustrations, then brought those visual elements together to create a custom style in Recraft. The goal was to keep the collection cohesive while allowing every card to tell its own story.
Soft colours, aged paper textures, ornamental borders, and hand-painted details became the visual language of this deck.
And that's how 54 Shades of Whimsy came to life - a little world where every card has a character, every detail has a story, and even a game of cards can feel magical.

What if Stone Age hunters had access to modern weapons and technology?
For the Recraft Styles Challenge, I created The Anachronists, a series of six illustrations following a group of hunters on a mammoth hunt, from tracking it with a drone to bringing it home in an off road vehicle and celebrating with a feast.
I used prehistoric rock art from the Iberian Mediterranean Basin, Bhimbetka Rock Shelters, and Tassili n’Ajjer as references to create a custom Recraft Style. Then I used it to bring these unexpected scenes to life as if they had been painted on cave walls thousands of years ago.

While digging through The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s public domain archives, I got lost in the 16th-century arms and armor collection. Seeing the Ottoman cuirasses and Milanese steel plates up close, it struck me that this wasn't just battlefield defense, it was the bespoke luxury streetwear of 1560, obsessed with status, intricate gold filigree, and personal protection.
That sparked an obsession: what if a master Renaissance armorer was handed the brief for a modern techwear drop instead of a king's battlefield armor?
Using a custom Recraft V4 Style trained exclusively on those gilded steel artifacts, DAMASCUS // DROP 1560 strips away modern plastic to forge trail runners, modular hard-shell packs, and studio monitors out of blackened Damascus steel, articulated scales, and hand-chiseled 24k gold. It turns everyday consumer gear into brutal, beautiful artifacts from an alternate timeline where high-tech utility never lost its reverence for old-world metallurgy.🔥
The Natural History of Digital Habits
I found a hand-coloured illustration from Edward Donovan’s The Natural History of British Insects, Volume VIII (1799), in the Internet Archive Book Images collection on Flickr. I used this archival reference to create my custom Recraft style, Digital Natural History — 1799. My six-image series imagines small creatures using smartphones, wireless earbuds, food delivery, video calls, electric scooters, and robot vacuums. Antique botanical compositions turn modern digital habits into specimens from an impossible natural-history archive.
