Making Friends With My Insecurity | Personal Essay
A personal essay exploring insecurity, self-worth, and the stories we tell ourselves about where we should be in life.
This independent writing project combines personal reflection with a psychologically informed perspective. It demonstrates my interest in making vulnerable experiences feel recognizable through an honest, conversational voice.
My role: Author.
Skills demonstrated: Personal essay writing, narrative nonfiction, reflective storytelling, and voice development.
Such an honest and relatable topic. Sometimes putting our insecurities into words helps us understand ourselves better. 🤍
For this project, I created a custom visual style called “Pastel Reverie V4” in Recraft. Inspired by Frederic, Lord Leighton’s Odalisque (1862), I explored how the elegance of historical painting could be reimagined through imaginative haute couture.
Using Recraft, I developed a cohesive collection of eight original fashion concepts inspired by ornamental peacock feathers, swans, luxurious fabrics, elaborate embroidery, and classical silhouettes. Each image was generated using my custom Pastel Reverie V4 style to maintain a consistent artistic direction while exploring different designs, colors, and forms.
My goal was to bridge historical fine art and contemporary fantasy fashion, transforming the atmosphere of a classical painting into a distinctive visual collection.
Seisund.ee is a mental health and self-growth app. It has a reflection journal, a 7-day emotion diary, a daily “one good thing” practice and 18+ guided exercises: breathing, visualisation, body awareness, anxiety management and more. Users can also find and book certified RI psychotechnicians and message them inside the app. It’s in English and Estonian, has light and dark mode, and is live on Google Play, with iOS coming next. Anyone can try a practice right away, no account needed.
Why I built it
I’m a psychotechnician. In sessions I saw the same thing again and again: people had a breakthrough with me, then went home and the work stopped. The exercises that helped them lived on paper or in my head, not in their pocket. I wanted the tools I use with clients to be there on an ordinary Tuesday evening, when someone is overthinking at 11pm or needs two minutes to calm down before a meeting.
How I built it
I’m not a developer. I built Seisund.ee myself with @Base44 over about a year, prompt by prompt: the practices, the emotion tracking, the guest mode, the payments and the Google Play release. Base44 let a psychotechnician turn his own method into working software.
