Could Claude Design replace your first design sprint?
I tested Claude Design to build a Personal Financial dashboard interactive prototype ā starting with nothing but plain language and rough Figma screenshots. Here's my honest take:
āØ What wowed me
The depth of product logic genuinely surprised me. It didn't just lay out components ā it thought like a product designer. It generated an insight like "If you increase your monthly contributions by Ā£100, you'd end up with Ā£112K" in the relevant section. Something I hadn't even thought to include.
š” The icons and layout felt warm and considered from the very first generation.
š” It even brought a lightweight design system: edit/set your fonts and background, and it updates across the entire prototype.
š” And before building anything, Claude Design asks thoughtful questions about your colour choices, fonts, and intent, which genuinely helps you spend your tokens wisely.
š§ What it can't replace yet
The interaction layer. Some interactions worked, some were just layout ā and for a mid-fidelity prototype, I get it. But crucial interactions need to function. That said, I think Claude Code will eventually sort this out.
The verdict? Claude Design isn't replacing Figma or a senior product designer anytime soon ā but the thoughtfulness it brings to the first draft is genuinely impressive.

Recently Iāve started prototyping my designs in Figma more than I have in the past.
I tended to avoid prototyping in the past due to it being time consuming and honestly most of the projects I was working on were simple enough to not require this amount of detail.
But as the projects I work on have become more complex Iāve found that this extra attention to detail really helps align with stakeholders and sell them on a design before starting development.
With a prototyped design clients are able to interact and see how the website will function, not just how it will look. This helps reduce uncertainty in the final deliverable and ultimately helps speed up Webflow development.
In the past describing all the hover interactions and click interactions for something even as simple as the slider below would require both time for me to explain and some imagination on the clientās part.
While imagination is great, itās not the best way to align on fine details.
Anyways, long story short, new policy is show donāt tell.
