Less than 8 hours. One clear direction. Great branding isn't about exploring hundreds of ideas. It's about making the right decisions early. This concept went from brief to creative direction in less than 8 hours. After 15+ years, I've learned that speed comes from clarity, not shortcuts. That's what I enjoy most: helping founders find the right direction before a single pixel is refined. Here's how I usually approach a new brand: 1. Understand the vision Align with the founder's goals, audience and what the brand needs to communicate. 2. Define the right creative territory Identify the strongest references and establish a clear visual direction before designing. 3. Explore the identity Develop logo concepts, typography and the visual language until the strongest solution emerges. 4. Build a cohesive brand direction Turn that vision into a creative system that can grow into a complete brand experience. How do you approach the first stage of a branding project? I'm currently available for brand identity, creative direction, web design & development. Open to: • Full-time remote roles • Long-term freelance collaborations • Direct client projects

The idea that speed comes from clarity lands, especially with a full direction built in under eight hours. Which early decision removed the most unnecessary exploration from this concept?

Understanding the client's vision and selecting the right creative direction from the very beginning is essential. Once that foundation is in place, intuition takes over and the ability to visualize the brand before even opening Illustrator

That tracks with the 8 hour turnaround too, once intuition kicks in you're not second guessing yourself through fifty iterations. How long did it usually take you to build that kind of instinct?

Years of experience, building a strong library of design references, developing your own taste and creative vision, and having reusable assets from years of work all help speed up the process. That said, I'd also say eight hours isn't the ideal amount of time to build a brand properly 🙂

For me the first stage is mostly subtraction: I try to get the founder to name what the brand must not look like before we chase what it should. Ruling out territories early is what buys the clarity you describe, because every later decision has fewer directions to argue with....

I agree. The more information, the better. The challenge is that sometimes clients aren't entirely sure what they want or don't know how to express it, and that's where we come in - to guide them through the process and help shape that vision.
As for the eight hours, it's...

"Speed comes from clarity, not shortcuts." That's a great mindset. 👏
