People always say LinkedIn is full of AI bots & fake jobs, but I genuinely landed by full-time job that I started 10 days after finishing my final university exam through organically messaging someone on LinkedIn.
This was my lucky moment.
I saw a random jobs post for any ambassador of a tutoring company that I'd never heard of before, luckily I had already worked in this exact type of role, so I did what I knew best and pitched myself.
But I didn't just apply, I commented on the post, directly reached out to both of the co-owners of the company with tailored information on their company.
If I was searching for a graduate role in this academic year, here's how I'd use LinkedIn to get closer to the decision makers:
Connect with the following:
Hiring Managers for Early Careers divisions on large companies who work in the local offices that you are applying to.
For midsize firms, connect with the executive assistants of the heads of the local office that you are applying to.
For small businesses / family owned businesses, connect directly with the owner.
Be quick with your messaging, keep it clear & concise, what do you want, what can you solve, where is the proof?
If you are a graduate job seeker in the UK and would like to become one of the next CMD Careers students send me a message with your year, industry aspiration, and university!
