NOSTOS - a 30-second continuous one-take film of Homer's Odyssey.

Ten years of wandering compressed into a single unbroken shot. The camera never cuts and never stops moving forward: it pushes low through the burning ruins of Troy, into black smoke, out over a storm at sea, through whitewater into a fire lit cave, down into deep water, then up and out onto a sunlit shore - ending at an open doorway with warm light spilling out. Home.

The structural idea was that an odyssey is already a one-take. It's a journey, and a journey is a camera that never stops. So every transition between worlds happens by passing through opaque matter - smoke, a wave, cave darkness, water - never by cutting.

Two deliberate constraints: no human faces anywhere in the film, and no sight of the cyclops itself, only its shadow on the cave wall. The traveller is the camera, and what you don't see does more work than what you do.
