AI can generate a beautiful interface in seconds.
And I think that's exactly why good design is becoming more valuable, not less.
We're reaching a point where creating a "clean, modern UI" is easy.
Rounded cards. Nice typography. Soft gradients. Perfect spacing. Beautiful dashboards.
But there's a problem:
Everything is starting to look the same.
The more I experiment with AI-generated interfaces, the more I realize that execution is no longer the hardest part.
The hard part is taste.
Knowing when to break the grid.
Knowing that the "best practice" isn't right for this particular product.
Knowing which interaction deserves attention and which one should disappear.
Knowing when a design needs more polish — and when it needs more personality.
AI is incredibly good at giving us a starting point.
But a starting point isn't a design direction.
For me, the interesting future isn't:
Designer vs. AI
It's:
Designer + AI + strong taste.
AI can generate 20 directions.
The designer's job is knowing which one is worth building — and then making it feel like it belongs to this product, not every product.
Maybe the most valuable design skill in the AI era won't be how fast you can create.
It'll be knowing what shouldn't look like everything else.
Curious what other designers think:
As AI gets better at execution, does taste become the designer's most valuable skill?
