Most project problems I see don't come from bad code. They come from things nobody wrote down at the start.
If you're about to hire a developer, agree on these 5 things first.
1. Written scope. A short list of what's included and, just as important, what isn't.
2. Milestones and payments. Pay for finished pieces you can see, not for time passing.
3. A staging link. You should be able to click through the work every week, not just at the end.
4. Code ownership. The repo, hosting and domain should be in your accounts from day one.
5. Handover and docs. How to deploy, where the keys live, and who to call if something breaks.
Ten minutes on this before kickoff saves weeks of back-and-forth later. What would you add to the list?

I'd add a written definition of done for each milestone. "Finished" means different things to a client and a developer, and agreeing on acceptance criteria upfront heads off most milestone payment arguments.

Great addition, Shoaib. A one-line "done means..." for each milestone (e.g. works on mobile, tested on staging, client signed off) saves a lot of awkward conversations at payment time. Thanks for adding it!
