I set myself a challenge this month: learn Framer by building something real, not a tutorial file.
So I made SUMIKA, a concept site for an archive of beautiful Japanese houses. Part real estate listing, part travel journal.
The build: Concept and art direction first. I wanted to avoid the soft beige minimalist look everyone reaches for with Japanese design and go bold instead, drawing from Japanese poster and print work. Sumi black, washi paper, a hot vermilion, gold hairlines, and oversized vertical kanji.
Then Framer. The whole thing runs on a CMS, so every house is a content entry and the detail pages build themselves from one template. Add a listing, its page exists.
Biggest takeaway: the CMS is where Framer earns it. Once the structure was right, adding houses took minutes instead of redesigning a page each time.
