こんにちは、今日はどうですか?(Hello, how is your day?)
Six months ago I started learning Japanese properly through structured courses, weekly lessons, immersion - the works. The courses are excellent, and I wanted to get the most out of them.
That meant having somewhere to study on my own terms between lessons - drill the kana & kanji over morning coffee, run a practice test when it suited me, keep the daily habit ticking over.
Nothing quite fit, so I built it. It's called Nihontomo (日本友).
It's a web-based study companion designed to sit alongside your Japanese course, currently built for beginner and intermediate learners (JLPT N5/N4).
What it does:
→ Drills for kana, kanji and vocabulary - 700+ N5 words, every N5 kanji, and 750+ kanji to grow into
→ Custom tests you build around your lessons and areas of focus
→ Sentence practice - read and write real Japanese, with instant AI grammar feedback (beta)
→ Spaced repetition reviews that resurface words right when you need them
→ Progress trackers & N5 JLPT readiness score, so you always know where you stand
It's free, no ads, and I use it every day for my own study so it'll keep getting better out of pure self-interest :) ...but you can always buy me a コーヒー☕

Built end-to-end as a solo project - design & brand by me, data architecture and code on Lovable, with Claude as a collaborator throughout. If you're curious how it all came together and my process, happy to talk about that too.
ありがとう(Thank you)🙏
