It's companies thinking Al can replace designers
Companies replace designers with Al because they see 'design as a cost'
Then they believe Al means 'they can design'
But Al doesn't create good design
Designers do
Al is just a tool
That's why great designers aren't a cost
They're an investment
Al doesn't remove the need for design
It increase the cost of getting design wrong

It takes everything people have already made and hands you the most agreeable version of it. Trained to please the average person, so it always drifts to the middle.
That's the catch. AI nails the stuff most people would nod at.
Taste is the opposite. Picking the thing most people won't, because you know it's right. A machine can't do that. It's got nothing on the line.

I've been experimenting with Canva's Magic Layers recently, and while I'm impressed by what it can do.
But it makes me wonder.
What's stopping someone from taking a design I created, making a few edits with AI, changing some colors, swapping a few elements, and calling it their own?
At what point does original work stop being original?
I'm all for tools that make creativity more accessible. I use AI tools myself, and I can see the value they bring.
But as a designer, I can't help wondering what ownership looks like in this new world.
If someone can transform a piece of work in seconds, how do we protect the value of the people who created it in the first place?
I'm genuinely curious how other designers are thinking about this.
