How did you pick the last restaurant you ate at?
I'll guess. You opened Google Maps and scrolled the photos for about ten seconds. Then you checked the stars and booked.
Those photos weren't shot by a photographer. They were shot by customers in bad light with half-eaten plates and somebody's thumb in the corner.
That's the real first impression. I build websites for a living and even I'll admit the website comes fourth here. That's if people ever get to it.
So your customers' phones are doing your branding whether you like it or not. You can't direct the photo but you can direct what's in it. The plate, the lighting at 8pm, the one thing on the table everyone shoots.
Same with the menu. More people read it as a PDF on their phone than ever touch the printed one. So if that PDF is just a scan of the paper version then that's your brand.
