It gives you the opportunity to make your own nepotism.

Yes, I know that's not really possible but the point is still the same.

LinkedIn gives every student the opportunity to directly message professionals, business owners, and managers who make daily decisions at companies that could hire them.

But how do you get them to reply?

Comment on their posts, always a good way to get yourself recognised, sensibility present your thoughts, this gives you the opportunity to show your understanding, communication, and workplace skills.

Follow up, it can be anything along the lines of: "Hello X, I saw your post Y and thought A, B, and C. I was wondering if you could share how you landed in your current position.

Lean on their egos, many senior professionals have egos, some deservingly so others not. But either way use it your advantage. They won't want to know about you, they'll want to tell you about them. Allow them to talk themselves into familiarity.

You can extend this further by creating another post later in time, tagging them in it extending on the topic you originally responded too.
