"Can you make it cheaper?"
It's one of the most common questions in software development.
My answer isn't simply "yes" or "no."
Instead, I ask:
"Which outcome are you willing to give up?"
Every software project is a balance of three things:
Time
Cost
Scope
Reducing the budget often means reducing features, extending the timeline or accepting technical compromises.
There's nothing wrong with that as long as everyone understands the trade-offs.
The best client relationships I've had weren't built on offering the lowest price.
They were built on transparency.
When clients understand why something costs what it does, conversations shift from "How can we make it cheaper?" to "How can we maximize the value within our budget?"
As builders, our job isn't to sell the most expensive solution.
It's to recommend the right solution for the problem.
Sometimes that's a full-scale application.
Sometimes it's a simple landing page.
Sometimes it's telling a client they don't need software at all.
That's how trust is built.
