How to estimate the real monthly cost of a Sharetribe marketplace
Sharetribe's new cost article compares its platform with custom infrastructure using a marketplace of nearly 500,000 users. Most founders need a different calculation, so this is the one I use.
Start with the plan. Build is $39 a month while you are building and testing. Live is $259 monthly or $199 on yearly billing, and every plan includes 1 million usage credits a month.
Add usage. Sharetribe's examples show a marketplace with 350 new users and 2,400 transactions a month paying about $250 in usage fees, and smaller ones paying $0 to about $23. The Simulate usage fees link in Console lets you test your own numbers.
Add hosting only if you run custom code. Sharetribe's pages put it at about $19 to $39 a month on Render.
Then add the two lines the cost comparisons skip: development and updates. Small changes can cost a few hundred dollars, complex projects tens of thousands. Merging future Web Template releases takes about 15 minutes with no conflicts and real work with many.
The rule: customize what earns revenue or builds trust, and keep the rest on defaults so updates stay cheap.

What a monthly check covers on the sites I look after:
• Updates on staging first: core, theme, plugins or apps
• Every form tested end to end. Does the email actually arrive?
• Search Console: new errors, new 404s, pages dropped from the index
• Speed on the top pages, on mobile, not just desktop
Most problems I find in audits weren't there at launch. A plugin update broke a form, a page was renamed without a redirect, a new script slowed the homepage.
None of them are dramatic. They just pile up when nobody looks.

I redesigned 8x.life as a concept project
8x's homepage today is a list of links. Their best ideas (the manifesto, how the company works, how hiring works) are scattered across three different sites. So I rebuilt it as one story, aimed at the people they want to hire:
→ The manifesto leads: "humans in the loop."
→ "How 8x works" is shown as a loop, because every new vertical builds on the last one.
→ Real lines from their job ads, instead of culture-deck adjectives.
→ A fit self-check that can honestly tell you "this probably isn't for you."
→ All 18 open roles on the homepage, filterable.
Every fact comes from 8x's own sites. Nothing is made up.
