Otto's Settings and Administration screens had every feature and were still hard to use. Today I shipped the rework.
What was wrong: → Settings stacked 5 card styles and 10 text sizes, plus a five-step wall of setup text above the one list people came to check → Opening a workspace in Admin gave you about 10 sections in one scroll, with 2 save buttons that covered different things → Two bugs hid inside the mess: a link from Product Reviews to the runner settings never landed, and saving a workspace silently dropped a half-edited plan
What changed: → Both screens share one frame: a grouped section list and one card style → The nav shows state: a dot where something needs you, a count where a number is worth seeing → A workspace is its own view with 4 tabs and ONE save bar → Role changes and removals apply at once with Undo, instead of a confirm hidden inside a menu
Same functionality. 60 files changed, plus a new automated UI check so it stays that way.
The PM lesson: most UX debt isn't missing features, it's missing hierarchy. If people can't find it, it doesn't exist.
