I've shipped 8 production apps in 3 years.
Here's what I've learned about what actually matters:
Communication beats code quality. Clients don't see your clean architecture. They see whether you reply fast, update them daily, and tell them when something is harder than expected. Do that and you'll always get re-hired.
Scoping is the real skill. Anyone can build a feature. Telling a client "that feature will take 3 weeks, but this simpler version takes 3 days and solves the same problem" — that's what separates good engineers from expensive ones.
Shipping beats perfect. I've seen codebases rewritten 3 times before launch because the team kept optimising. A live imperfect product beats a perfect unreleased one every time.
What I'm doing now: → Full-Stack engineer at Onsense AI (live AI SaaS) → Founder at Bridge Innovations — subscription dev team for startups → Available for freelance projects on Contra
