Ticket Rail is a Kitchen Display System concept designed for a busy restaurant grill station, created for the #DailyUI Recipe / Food Order prompt.
In a real kitchen, a confusing screen means slower service and more mistakes. So I designed this around one goal: the chef should understand every order at a glance.
Key design decisions:
Paper-ticket look: cream tickets on a dark background, inspired by the printed order tickets on a kitchen rail
Timer bar + status label: each order shows time, a progress bar and a label (New, On Time, Late, Overdue), so status never depends on colour alone
+ / − / ! modifier chips: “+” means add, “−” means remove, “!” means note, so changes are readable in one glance
Allergy alert: a separate red banner so safety information stands apart from normal modifications
Big touch targets: large BUMP / START buttons that work with busy or wet hands
Tools: Figma | Fonts: Big Shoulders Display, IBM Plex Mono
Designing around one goal, the chef should understand every order at a glance, is spot on, Sitara. The + / minus / exclamation modifier chips and the separate allergy banner show real kitchen empathy. Big touch targets for wet hands is a thoughtful detail too.
